No, they want to kill him. Bathroom laws are the pretext, not the goal. Assuming that what they say has anything to do with their intent is a serious mistake.

I'm unfortunately quite certain about this. All of these laws are designed to make it impossible to be trans. The only way they won't kill you is if you've never transitioned or even hinted you might want to — and yes, they'll be watching all your web traffic too. To be clear, I'm not trying to be depressing here. Rather, the more folks who know where the game is going will understand how much they need escalate their resistance.
