@jonty Those who do salvaging from the utter mess left behind at Leeds Festival and similar have taken great interest in the amount of effort that's been put into this :D It simply shows the huge culture difference between EMFCamp attendees (and how amazingly tidy they can be) compared to the utter chaos I rifled through last year in the aftermath to recover items to donate to those that need it. Festival Republic have a lot to learn about fostering better Festival cultures.
@stanto Things you will enjoy:
* The reusable cup vendors are absolutely astonished that we returned 95% of cups. Apparently that is the highest amount they've ever seen returned from a festival by a huge margin.
* The bin vendor was shocked that all the bins were present and correct, and none of them had been damaged.
* Some locals walked their dog through the site during teardown and say they love us because all the other festivals leave so much rubbish on site. They want to come in 2026.
@CatherineFlick @jonty @stanto Also massive props to everyone involved in mud mitigation and accessibility in general - was great to see so many people able to use mobility aids successfully to get around the site
@m @jonty @stanto even my not quite 2yo helped spread hay on the mud! He enjoyed it a lot. I recall seeing @herdingdata bringing a lot around on his ATV
@CatherineFlick @jonty @stanto @herdingdata The hay was a revelation - so obvious with hindsight, and bales can just be left near any mud-prone areas for people to fix up the site as they go by. Brilliant!
@m @CatherineFlick @jonty @stanto can confirm that a great deal of team effort went into mud mitigation! We had teams spreading hay in strategic areas - both those which were muddy now and those which were likely to be later(i.e. the bar marquee). This started with *very strict* mandate not to drive on grass if at all possible so as to preserve it for the event. Which was a little in conflict with how many vehicles we had and how much heavy kit needed to be moved onto grass 😅
@herdingdata @m @CatherineFlick @jonty @stanto Yep, I spent an afternoon doing hay (after an industrial dose of antihistamines) - and actually quite enjoyed. Meant I could polish up on my trailer skills - despite fighting with the gearbox in the gator.
Even managed to teach the terminally Californian @r how to reverse a trailer, having never done it before! It was so nice to be able to share and teach skills, and realising that we all have our own areas of knowledge.
@CatherineFlick @blue annoyingly I can confirm that my hayfever was acting up before we even started operation mud mitigation! There was a time during setup when we were all squelching about in wellies and we couldn’t possibly DREAM that dust might become a problem in a few days
@herdingdata yeah I felt really bad because I was sneezing and coughing and I’m sure people thought I was horribly infectious with something 😭 I knew it was hayfever (feels very different from a cold!) but I couldn’t really hang a sign around me! 😭
