Whew, warm. Bicycled to the library (2 hours before opening) to avoid the heat, dropped off my due DVDs, and---after standing in front of the off-hours curb pickup machine for 15 minutes to shield it from the sun and let it cool down--picked up the DVD I reserved.

(The machine apparently overheats in warm weather/direct sunlight, so I had to stand there and block the sun until all the electronics cooled enough to work). I didn't bring the FLIR to read the surface temperature on the device, but it was initially too warm to touch...low angle sunlight directly at the machine.

76.9F right now air temperature. Forecast to 89F today.

Wait, your library has a vending machine for requests/hold-for-pickup?!

Those look exactly like the Amazon package lockers in the lobby of my apartment building, down to the last detail. I wonder if that is what they are. In which case, ew.

@EverydayMoggie @ai6yr @NNN there's a few companies that have experimented with this sorry of thing - ideally Amazon & the library would have both bought from the same 3rd party... SF has started with something more like a traditional vending machine(not on hold) just available if you have library card at the machine
