Some thoughts on Fedoras strategy for 2028. I’m not really convinced atomic distributions are needed, but I like the idea.
That said, there are certain things that get way more complicated and require more research / knowledge / involvement of a user once they get past the “open a web browser and work in Google Docs” phase than on a non atomic distribution.

@fallenhitokiri I would argue that the inability for traditional desktops to pull off "open a web browser and work in Google docs" is telling. 😀
ChromeOS is like 13 years old at this point lol.
@fallenhitokiri Atomic spins are great for kiosks, conference demos, and other "transient workstation" use cases. But also, Fedora's strategy is to be RHEL's upstream. Sometimes, the utility is in proving out the concept for altogether different enterprise use cases. Did you notice the new RHEL Automotive spin? Guess what that's based on.
@wakko while I’m not following RHEL too closely I get the idea. But if you make your concept distro unusable to a large enough number of users you might run out of data points :)
@jorge now that’s something that works on all mainstream desktops for me.
On some better than on others depending if they force online accounts, but it works :)
