I feel like the abusive mode of software business models is so embedded at this point that we have a generation of designers who don't actually know how to prioritize user utility — which was already complicated for folks to understand even before the enshittification started.
@dymaxion I agree. One might even consider that the reason we have engineers willing to work on things like the current swell of AI stuff is that, thanks to said business models, ethical concerns doesn't even register in the field in general.
That would also explain the outburst of hostility from them when one single guy gets up & a says he won't build technology for oppression....
