Edit: thanks all, I have picked up a new grinder. early xmas present to myself I guess! coffee nerds, my grinder has packed it in. what should I get? I need a workhorse daily type one that does some sort of dosing (either timed or whatever). I had a Eureka mignon specialita before, it was ... okay. The LCD died about a year in to ownership and then the motor packed it in today :(
@CatherineFlick I’d recommend you look at Baratza. The grinders work well, are well built, and very easy to repair. Spare parts for all of them are available at reasonable prices.
If you prefer flat burr either the Vario (W+ can dose by weight, otherwise by time) or Forte (AP is all purpose, BG is mostly for pourover - both dose by time) or if you like conical burrs the Sette 270 (Wi can dose by weight).
@nerdd oh wow I used to have one of these a very long time ago! I think I had an Encore. It did the job but was very messy to grind directly into the basket. I will look at these other options you suggest, thank you!

I don’t think they have done anything to reduce mess when grinding into a basket, but I’m not sure. I only do pour overs, so I just grind into the grounds bin on my Sette (and the Vario before that).
