@tef I think they tried, though won't lie I was disappointed when combat mechanics showed up and were Normal.
I think "smallish team with an idea makes a 3D game that can sell" is hard to pull off.
Portal 1's snark helped keep a string of puzzles from feeling monotonous. I think the Stray folks decided detailed environments would be their Other Good Thing, and they were neat but, with a short game and a lot of places you just briefly pass through, didn't make it as cool as it could've been
