2) More than 15 years ago I got hooked on following US politics --#uspol -- something both fascinating and horrifying is unfolding there. And nobody on this planet can ignore the implications.

Another interest of mine is the #history of #Paris, especially that period known as the #BelleEpoque, between the revolution of 1870 and the war of 1914. It is such a pleasure to walk around and see so many reminders of that era, of all the great artists, scientists and writers who still inspire us.

1) So let me try an #introduction, with a suitable density of hashtags.

I worked for a #science research institution in France but I retired two years ago.

I spend most of my time in #paris. I am #quebecois and a #canadian citizen

I suffer from musical bulimia, and have a very large #music collection, most of which is now ripped on hard disk. My tastes are very wide and include #classical, #jazz and #improvisation, with a certain fondness for "avant-garde" stuff (for lack of a better word).

My colleagues at CEA in #Paris, France, are hiring a 2-year #postdoc to work on the joint research project #SECUBIC about #fuzzing binaries to identify #backdoors. In #Paris haben Radfahrer an den meisten Ampeln generell Vorfahrt. Das schützt nicht nur vor Abbiegeunfällen, sondern wird seitens der Stadt sehr oft mit diesem Argument begründet: Für Radfahrer sei es körperlich anstrengender, anzuhalten und wieder in die Pedale zu treten, als für Autofahrer, zu bremsen und den Fuß aufs Gas zu drücken. Also erleichtert man den Radfahrern die Fahrt. Doch während Städte wie Paris und #Bologna längst mit autoarmen Vierteln und komplett autofreien Tagen experimentieren, scheint in #Hamburg schon die Verlegung einer Haltelinie höhere Mathematik zu sein, selbst dann, wenn an dieser Stelle schon jemand zu Tode gekommen ist. Muss es wirklich Jahre dauern, bis eine neue Linie gezogen wird, wie auf der Kreuzung an der Magdeburger Brücke? Oder bis eine Ampel umgeschaltet wird? Zumal Hamburg sich der Strategie der "#VisionZero" verschrieben hat, die 2021 als Leitbild der deutschlandweiten #Verkehrspolitik verankert wurde und auch im Hamburger Koalitionsvertrag festhalten ist. Demnach soll es im Straßenverkehr künftig keinen einzigen Verkehrstoten mehr geben. […] Ein wesentlicher Schritt in Richtung dieses Ziels, wenn nicht der wichtigste, wäre – nicht nur unter den Fahrradfahrern, sondern auch im Senat – das Eingeständnis: zehn Fahrradtote? Wir haben ein Problem. Und dazu bräuchte es eine Problemanalyse, in der nicht politisches Kalkül regiert, sondern Ehrlichkeit: Was läuft gut, was könnte besser laufen? Wo sind die Strukturen zu kompliziert? Warum werden gefährliche Kreuzungen erst nach einem Unfall umgebaut und nicht präventiv entschärft? In anderen Worten: So ziemlich alles müsste anders werden."

Je vais donner une #conférence sur mon voyage à vélo de Paris à Athènes le jeudi 13 février à 19h, à #Paris.

I am a #maths educator #teaching near #Paris, in #France.

Science-wise, I am interested in maths and #computer #science, particularly in some fields at the intersection of these two: algorithmic number theory, computer #algebra, #cryptography, coding theory... And I love to teach!
