@bloor Alternatively they could just bring back public information films and terrify the kids into behaving. Much cheaper!
@phil55494 @bloor @idnorton Nah, it was a nice change from the tail end of the cold war - people who did stupid stuff might die, rather than all of us, all at once.
@nav @phil55494 @bloor Maybe it's due to my age but I really wasn't aware of the cold war in the 80s.
Weird to say so looking back given we lived in Germany for a chunk of it with Dad's army posting.
We even went to see the Berlin wall and waved at the guards on the other side!
@idnorton @phil55494 @bloor I remember things like the arms reduction talks, Polaris test launch footage on the news, watching Threads at school. Similarly I had a relation in the army in Germany so ended up over there for a holiday around 1980. Watched by a guard at the east german border who definitely had better binoculars than us. The highlight was getting to drive an armoured personnel carrier around the tank range, so I guess it wasn't ALL bad 😃
@nav @phil55494 @bloor So that's definitely an age thing then, I was blissfully unaware of most things in 1980 being 3 years old ;)
