Screen cover. Optimised for ✨AI✨
@catsalad thank god regulation labels like these exist to prevent users from buying poisonous products.
@catsalad are we sure it's not "Al"? A lot of people called Al have trouble with screen covers...
@catsalad maybe it’s extra damage-resistant for when AI makes you want to fling the phone out the window.
@catsalad
As I've been saying:
"#ArtificialIntelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity." 🤦♂️
@catsalad That a screen cover is optimised for AI tells you everything you need about the substance of AI.
@catsalad So nobody noticed that that logo outlines a swastika? (Though with the rotation in the other direction than rather infamous symbols of eighty years ago.)
@catsalad my vape says it has AI.
It doesn't, of course. But it does have a color LCD screen with animations and RGB LED's on the sides. So that CPU probably could run a shitpost bot, yeah. Or Doom. It has mobs, and that's AI, right?
@catsalad @pluralistic OptimAIsed
@catsalad We'd be stupid not to want a really smart cover to go with the upcoming $3,500 "made in Detroit by laid off autoworkers" iPhone.
@catsalad Does it work with Windows Vista? Inquiring minds (with worsening age related pains) want to know.
@catsalad
This is one of those stupid marketing things where everything ML related gets called AI. Yes, apple chips have been developed to run models, but obviously not the big ones.
Our company uses an ML vision model to interact with a specific kind of object in world, and the muckity-mucks decided this was "AI" and we should call it that.
Remember, kids, AI is a marketing term, not a technical one.
@catsalad An AI powered screen cover? Seriously? Next will be an AI powered door knob. It memorizes the exact times you walk through every day and opens for you.
@catsalad the “reason” behind this is because apple made a soft gesture at the bottom of the screen that you can hit accidentally if you have ai assist on very easily. This product either helps retain that annoying gesture or eliminates it and I have no idea which.
@catsalad guess we really are in the "radium butter" phase of the AI fad.
@catsalad This is like those "color TV" antennas sold back in the 1970's.
(This antenna gets all the colors.)
@catsalad Yep. Ordinary screen covers are made of materials that don't let the AI in (they diffract it off the WiFi port, or maybe they reverse the polarity of the neutron flow that powers Siri). These days, though, not letting the AI in is precisely what you do want.
"optimized for AI"
hardened and padded so the phone isn't damaged as much as you punch it repeatedly in frustration?
Wasn't there some fellow in 1999 who wrote to various inappropriate firms to ask them if their products were Y2K-ready?
Just so he could get back, collect, and publish their humorously perplexed replies.
Like a letter from a manufacturer of peanut butter.
