I really wanna rewatch DS9 as an adult but I can't stand Colm Meaney as an actor, so you can only imagine how painful Chief O'Brian and Keiko scenes will be for me.
what's really funny is I've seen Alexander Siddig in DS9 and Peaky Blinders and both roles are essentially the same character.
@gsuberland it’s still objectively the best trek though, you just have to grit your teeth through a bunch of S1 and anything featuring Keiko
Edit: also O’Brien suffers some horrific fate in basically every episode so that should make it better
@gsuberland if it helps his character is forced to suffer constantly
@gsuberland on the other hand it may be the perfect show, as you repeatedly see Colm Meany dragged through hell.
@ninkosan talked about it here [see link] but for some reason I lose all suspension of disbelief when Colm is on screen. it's bizarre. it's like if your dad was an actor and you watched a TV show he was in and it's just.... yer dad. (and in this context, you don't really like your dad either)
@ninkosan when I watch Die Hard 2 I literally fast forward the few short scenes with him as the pilot because AUUUUGH
@gsuberland im rewatching ds9 right now :D
@gsuberland if you'd like to see a bit more of Siddig's acting range, try the movie Syriana (2005)
(A meh movie overall, but he does a good job in it)
@gsuberland Now you made me look up Alexander Siddig - he was married to Nana Visitor for part of the DS9 time?!
Anyway, I think Colm does OK in Layer Cake!
@jhwgh1968 I tried watching that and it was so tedious I turned it off :\
