I wish Apple Podcasts, Music and TV were all part of one “Apple Media” App. At the very least, combining Music and Podcasts would be cool.
@james You used to be able to get your music and your tv and movies in the iTunes store. It had a wishlist so you could keep track of things you want to buy later and maybe even see that one of them is on sale (though you pretty much had to remember how much it was before and see the difference). And then they took that away from us and now we have to use Apple TV which has no wishlist, a worse interface, and fewer TV categories. Sorry, pet peeve.
@james in contrast, I very much like having them in separate places, because I use them in different contexts, and I think they have different requirements in terms of UI.
In general, I’d be in agreement.
But for Apple specifically, separating everything out has led to what appears to be multiple independent teams creating different and rudimentary experiences.
They are all so deeply lacking in features and experience. That my desire to combine them is because I want to have a consistent experience and the hope that more attention would be paid on UX and useful features.
But it’d probably just be independent teams working on their little section within this imaginary “Apple Media” app.
I guess what I should have posted is “I wish Apple media apps were less shit”
I love some of the shows on Apple TV. The App is a bare bones piece of shit.
It’s a media player that makes an API call to a single endpoint that’s just “/get all shows”.
All the media apps (Music, TV) are desperately lacking with really shit interfaces. Seperating everything out as led to multiple independent teams creating different and rudimentary experiences.
But it’s not surprising, Apples ethos judging by the the Vision headset catastrophe is “we have a monopoly so let’s burn all our brand capital by releasing things that are alpha/beta which is not becoming of an org of our standard, but like what are our customers gonna do, they’re locked in and/or there’s no better alternative”
@james Preach, brother! But I still buy their products, on the super rare occasion I buy phones or tablets, so I guess it doesn't bother me enough to vote with my wallet. By and large the construction of their products and overall hardware quality is superior from my experience, even though you're paying extra for that. I just wish they'd pull their heads out when it comes to their media and software.
