@Edent there apparently are actually MIME types for Google Docs https://developers.google.com/drive/api/guides/mime-types
That extension however, indeed not really a thing. But I suppose it could? Now I wonder how strict the combination of extensions and MIME types are. AFAIK it is more of a convention than an actual standard?
