Discord adding push notifications for people reacting with emojis is pretty funny. Emoji reacts to messages originally existed as a lighterweight way to respond to something without sending a notification, but now I guess it's exactly as noisy as just writing a reply?
@misty isn't that the default here, too? -- I usually just " 💝 👌 ☑️ 🥇 " etc just for efficient buraucratic reasons, but I don't know.
@misty Do you leave notifications on for everything or just @ replies and DMs? If for replies, does this mean emoji reactions are being treated as an @ message? 😱
@misty i bet it’s because slack does it. Got to maintain feature parity no matter the feature!
@misty a PM must have their annual review coming up and was way down on the mobile app engagement metric.
@misty it’s so close to being what I wanted, except
a) there’s still no way to get a list of past reacts
and
b) the notifications are opt out not opt in
Historically my problem with discord is you’d have *extremely important* comms like someone in a crisis asking for a hug look like they were being ignored because no notification + eventual consistency. I sometimes wondered if anyone ended up being concretely harmed by that combo, it seems likely.
@misty I got one of these the other day and I couldn’t figure out why I thought it was odd, thanks for pointing out that it’s new
@misty I hate that apple iMessages does this too. I guess reactions are becoming full messages everywhere.
@misty Maybe it was buried in one of those modals shilling Nitro that I’m constantly having to dismiss
@Catfish_Man Mmm, yeah, and now that I think about it - I think the mobile client has a notifications pane that shows the history of notifications you've gotten, but the desktop/web clients don't? Which is kinda weird
@jonathankoren See, that's also silly! Slack was the one to add it as a no-notification feature in the first place
