So, 30 miles walking in one day. Thoughts?
@solderandchaos no I don't think I'd have any thoughts after doing that. (possibly ever)
@solderandchaos I think I would refrain from it.
@solderandchaos Doable, but requires a high level of fitness, decent terrain, and good weather.
I could probably do it when I was younger, but not at my current level of fitness.
Do you have places where you can stop and fill water bottles?
@solderandchaos coincidentally I just did 50 miles round Rotherham today in 14.5 hours. Depends on your base pace but 11 hours should be doable
@solderandchaos I couldn't. Maybe with training it would be possible?
@solderandchaos how flat? I've done 25 miles in a day and it is a slog. Especially if it's up hill and down dale.
@solderandchaos ~48 km. (Sorry needed a unit I could relate to & I always walk in km) Dooable, will hurt. Good luck!
IIRC from my Boy Scout days, average walking speed is 3 miles per hour.
One BSA award required 50 miles in 2 days.
*IF* you walk 3-5 miles daily, you should be in good enough shape.
As others have, ensure a good walking kit : shoes/boots, socks (2-3 pr), WATER, snacks¹, weather gear, NSAIDs², "moleskin" for blisters, etc.
If possible, walk fast enough to take a 5-15 minute every 0.5 - 2.0 hrs. Change your socks at least once!
I pray that you succeed!
I pray that you recover quickly & fully!
8- )
( ¹ snacks include nuts, granola, dried fruits, etc. )
( ² NSAIDs : Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs: aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc. ;
N.B. acetaminophen/ paracetamol does NOT usually suffice )
@solderandchaos That is a loooong way. Or it would be for me, anyway.
@solderandchaos I just checked with The Proclaimers and they suggest another 470 miles more.
@solderandchaos @jackeric why do you NEED to do it?
@solderandchaos @jackeric I did half that in 5 recently so it’s technically doable. Definitely wasn’t in any state to do it again by the time I was done though.
@solderandchaos @jackeric ah OK so basically a school sponsored walk a la the 1970s :)
@solderandchaos @ukscone fantastic! hope it goes well! not in Glasgow is it?
