Cat sitting for a friend so I set up Moonlight for game streaming from my nice computer at home to my Steam Deck plugged into the TV here. This works beautifully, even at 4k120 over my home network, but Wireguard is being terrible for me and I can barely handle 1080p30 currently despite both ends being on symmetric gigabit Internet connections using the same ISP, I fear this is my Unifi router not being quite beefy enough.
@jon when I had Tailscale (which uses Wireguard) on my old crappy NAS (1GB RAM, Annapurna Labs ARM CPU), I’d get a ton of issues with speed and some outright crashes so it’s definitely not as light as some other options. Could you go direct to the computer via WG instead? That presumably has CPU to spare.
@advancedrubbish if I had working IPv6 on both ends I absolutely could, unfortunately only my home end has IPv6 working. I do have a server I can put in the middle to relay traffic but I’m not at all confident it’ll help matters.
@advancedrubbish definitely worth investigating though, and if nothing else might rule out the problem being the router not being able to keep up.
@jon ah boo :( this is one reason I use Tailscale, as it just deals with all this for me.
@advancedrubbish yeah, I ended up dumping Tailscale a while back because it felt like it was getting in the way more than it was helping. (This is entirely self inflicted, my flat probably doesn’t *need* more VLANs than rooms)
