Washing Machine Engineer: This program is precision designed to provide longevity and comfort for green cotton clothing.
Me: Mixed.
@anon_opin I both agree, and am sure the washing machine engineers despair at how much nicer my clothes could be if I just sorted them and used the proper programs.
@CatherineFlick I’ve come to the conclusion that other than retargeting things I’ve browsed ad targeting is a myth. It’s very rarely any more specific than I’m an adult man who lives in the UK.
@baiteh @anon_opin succor, so named for the brief reprieve offered to the players at half time.
@q the end of the Union.. The complete breakdown of law and order as brothers fight against each other in the Great ICO War.
@John Office of Standards for Education? It’s a stretch but then the civil service loves an obscure acronym.
@tommorris @jackeric I really wish this weren’t so real. Reminds me of being young and naive at a marketing agency and wanting to properly architect a Facebook app for a well known nappy company.
My boss took me to one side and said “it’s fine; we all know nobody’s actually going to use this thing other than the person who’s buying it”. He wasn’t wrong.
@CiaraNi hell, I do this stuff professionally and have done for a long time. I want my personal computers to be as boring as possible because after 8 hours of computer whispering I do not want to be doing more to get to a point where I can sit down and play a game.
Every marketing email you’ll receive today:
Roses are red, violets are blue. Fuck it. That’ll do.
Latest on the list of overly needy companies is South Western Railway, who’ve taken to asking me to do a *15 minute* survey every time I look in the direction of a train.
@dave I’d love to get into one of these shells but I spend 80% of my time on random devices, inside Docker containers, or both.
@tdp_org I read https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08DMKYTNM before starting a job in Python. Don’t be put off by the title, it’s more Python for people who can already program and just need an introduction to the wider ecosystem rather than a hello world tutorial.
@SecurityWriter I suspect similar to email this is going to be the downside of the whole “anyone can run an instance” thing.
@anon_opin tell me you’ve never used any other solution to the same problem without telling me.
@hugh everyone run in I’ve had with estate agents suggest they’re at best barely competent. “I thought it would be easier to call you” - I literally said in my last reply to your last call “I’m in meetings all day, please email me and I’ll get to it asap”.
@hugh I’m also not convinced they materially help, we *did* see footage from our cameras used to prosecute criminals, but compared to how many were in the field it was minuscule.
@hugh yes, absolutely this. I worked on security cameras for a while and became increasingly disaffected as I saw that mostly what they did was make people worry. Previously that person walking past commiting the crime of Being a Teenager In Public just walked by, now everyone can lose their minds about how they’re probably going to mug someone.
@an0key except for Star Trek. They can continue resurrecting that as much as they like because they’ve got form on creating new stories.
@an0key Christ, X-Files as well. Someone’s doing Buffy, with (some of) the original cast.
Just let these things die. Make something new.
@anon_opin be easier to give it to the one person on the plane who can’t bear the fact other people exist.
@SecurityWriter it sometimes saddens me that everyone having a portable computer with constant internet connection in their pocket has more or less killed specialised devices like this.
