Went for a little walk along the river from Southampton.

@zzeligg @Daojoan if there was a scandal which involved smashing the lock allowing access to the Golden Gate park after hours you could have goldengategategate.

I’ve got a day to myself tomorrow and haven’t done nearly enough exercise this weekend so a 16 mile walk up the Itchen Way to Winchester it is.

@jenniferplusplus what!? Which language is this so I can avoid it like the plague?

@internetsdairy @pikesley @TheBreadmonkey @Nickiquote there are guns but there’s a lot more to it than that (and the action is absolutely top notch)

@internetsdairy @pikesley @TheBreadmonkey @Nickiquote well worth a watch. It is absolutely ridiculous but goes to some places with it and the production values are spectacular. There’s one really big dramatic scene in an airport… they pulled it off by doing the big dramatic thing, in an airport.

@pikesley @internetsdairy @TheBreadmonkey @Nickiquote I gave Inception another watch recently while on a Nolan kick, definitely the weakest in the “Nolan plays with time” sub-genre of film. The final layer being a low budget Call of Duty level really didn’t feel like a great payoff.

@miniBill @q this is the way.

@hashbangperl @dave posting the results in this group isn’t hugely useful, but we establish scientific truth by doing research. Regrettably this research had no surprising results, but it was still valid to do it and publish those results.

@fallenhitokiri swipe up on the address bar (no, I have no idea how you’re meant to discover that either, it was pointed out to me by someone else).

@grajohnt are they shooting the next Final Destination film already?

@ellie the news of local workspaces, meaning I might be able to use this at work, was genuinely so exciting it snapped me out of a malaise and I leapt out of my seat and got on with my evening.

@dave none of what they say means anything anymore. It’s all just an ever escalating pretense, and I’m honestly terrified of where this road ends.

@esm this needed a content warning.

I think we should have an armistice on meaningless legal statements. Things like “subject to availability” on promotions for special offers on physical items (of course it’s subject to having any in stock) and “serving suggestion” or “contents may be hot” on things where that’s obvious. Just do away with them. Everyone knows already so it’s just noise placed there by lawyers to look busy.

@0xabad1dea my sympathies, I was in a similar situation after the acquisition of a startup I worked for. Lasted a year of participating in corporate politics and getting ever further away from the bits of the job I enjoy before I ejected, leaving behind a substantial bonus had I stuck it out another six months.

@Tattooed_Mummy it’s like a guess how many smarties are in the jar competition. Is there £300 or more of £2 coins in the box? (And are they fake)

@an0key someone sold this shit to the hotel, someone else bought it, and presumably several other people signed off on the whole thing.

One day I’ll have my conscience surgically removed and make a shitload of money flinging half arsed shit over the wall.

All new housing developments should be built with a shop and a pub, and a playground that is actually useable, not just a miniature slide plonked on it's own to a fulfil planning regulation.

Just climbed the hardest thing I’ve ever got to the top of, then dismounted by dangling with a single hand from a hold a good 12’ above the ground before dropping myself down, like a god damn action hero. (Thankfully there is no video to disabuse me of the notion that this looked elegant, rather than being a desperate last ditch effort not to fall on my arse from 12’ up)

Finding a business model for an open source projects is really hard, but "pay us to remove the catgirl pictures if you want to look professional" is one of the coolest attempts I've seen so far:

@jonty the Enterprise is designed for crew to take their families along, so they said “oh, it’s fine, the saucer will run away whenever your kids may be in danger” and then they put in place a sign off process so onerous it only happened when all senior management were out and Geordie has been left in command. Perfectly believable.

Well now I just look silly. The very next episode they split the ship.

20 episodes into my rewatch of TNG and Riker has remembered they can pop the saucer off for dodgy situations like Romulans showing up. They didn’t do it of course. Not sure they ever do between the pilot episode and Generations.
